Joe Biden continues to win in the Democratic primaries, but he is seeing notable resistance from “uninstructed” and “uncommitted” votes by people who are unhappy with his handling of the situation in Israel. This was sparked in part by the recent deaths of World Central Kitchen NGO workers who were victims of an Israeli attack. And the U.S. has continued to supply arms and funding to Israel while not doing enough to protect Palestinian citizens as well as the people providing humanitarian aid.
And while there is plenty to criticize Biden on with his handling of the situation in the Middle East, his actions have not been that much different from those followed by previous presidents including Donald Trump. That situation in that area has long been a mess, and terrorist groups like Hamas stirring the pot make it that much worse. But the harsh response by Israel that targets Palestinian citizens cannot be justified either. There is not an easy solution to this situation, especially seeing as the U.S. has long been a strong supporter of Israel, and Biden should continue to push for a cease fire and for humanitarian aid. But any protest voters who think that Trump will do a better job if he gets in office are sadly mistaken. Putting pressure on Biden to work toward a better resolution is fine, but no matter what you think of him as a leader, he is the best option among the viable choices we currently have going in to the coming election.
