An interesting piece has been posted at LoneStarLeft.com suggesting that Texas is not far from turning Blue, that is, ditching the GOP in favor of the Democrats. I have made an argument for a while now that there is no reason a Republican should ever win a general election in the state based on the current demographics. But the GOP continues to have a lock on offices like the Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Attorney General because of voter apathy and poor messaging on the part of the Democrats. As for the presidential election, the state is so heavily gerrymandered that it is very difficult for the Democratic candidate to grab the 40 Electoral Votes at stake. But if the Democrats could take control of the higher offices in the state as well as the Legislature (which are within reach), they can undo the damage done to the voting process. You can read the full piece at this link, and I will be putting together some additional numbers in the coming weeks to show that a Blue Texas is a very real possibility.
